Why           To raise funds for continued research on a rare disorder known as GAN (Giant Axonal Neuropathy).  GAN is a rare genetic disorder that slowly takes away a young child’s ability to walk, use their hands, and eventually to speak or swallow.  GAN is also terminal, most often by the time afflicted patients are young adults.  Hannah Sames, a Clifton Park area resident, was diagnosed with GAN two years ago.  Members of the nursery school met Hannah, a delightful six year old, this spring through T-ball and became inspired to plan a fundraiser to help Hannah and her family when they learned that the effects of the disease would likely cause Hannah to end her T-ball participation and require use of a walker.

The cooperative nursery school is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year.  The board members decided to extend their cooperative mission by giving back to the community as a fitting way to celebrate their 50-year milestone.  For half a century, the school has been educating and nurturing two, three and four year old children.  This event will provide Clifton Park Nursery School staff and parents the opportunity to show their children the importance of being a part of something bigger than themselves and show that they may be a small school but they have a big heart.
